Implement a Pedestrian Crosswalk for School Bus Crossing on Fairy Hill Road

Implement a Pedestrian Crosswalk for School Bus Crossing on Fairy Hill Road
The Issue
As a concerned parent living in Jenkintown, PA, I watch my children run across busy Fairy Hill Road ten times every week just to reach their school bus stop. This is not just our story; many families share this dangerous daily routine. It's time we address this issue and ensure the safety of our children.
According to the National Safety Council, most of the injuries related to school transportation occur while students are crossing the street. In fact, in 2017 alone, 264 school-age pedestrians died in school-transportation-related crashes (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). The lack of a simple pedestrian crosswalk on Fairy Hill Road increases these risks for our children.
As residents, we know Fairy Hill Road is very busy as many drivers use this street as a cut through and connection between various Abington neighborhoods. The busiest times of day for traffic coincide with school bus pick ups (7:30am - 9:00am) and school bus drop offs (2:30pm - 4:30pm).
We urge Jenkintown city officials and traffic authorities to paint a pedestrian crosswalk and install “Yield to Pedestrians in Crosswalk” street signs across Fairy Hill Road at Gregory Road. By doing so, we can significantly reduce potential accidents and ensure that our children can get to their bus stop safely.
Please sign this petition if you believe in creating safer streets for our kids. Your signature could make all the difference in ensuring that no child has to risk their life just getting on a bus to go to school.
