I have been a resident of Heidelberg Heights (VIC, Australia) since 2009 and during the entirety of this time I have lived near the intersection of Waiora Rd and Outhwaite Rd/Darvall St.

Over the years I have witnessed first-hand the dire need for improved road safety measures for drivers and pedestrians alike at this intersection.

I have seen numerous traffic accidents, near misses, and individuals struggle to cross this road safely on an ongoing basis.  This is not just an issue of convenience, but a serious risk to public safety.

Additional concern arises due to bus stops on either side of this hazardous intersection. Everyday bus passengers, including school children and the elderly, are faced with the dangerous task of crossing to the opposite side of this very busy dual lane road.

According to the Victoria Injury Surveillance Unit (VISU), pedestrians account for the second-highest number of traffic accident hospitalizations in Victoria. Implementation of an at-grade pedestrian crossing would help protect citizens and assist to reduce the recorded 3,327 incidents (as documented in 2019) related to pedestrian road safety.

For the well-being of Rosanna and Heidelberg Heights residents and visitors, we call upon Vic Roads to implement an at grade pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Waiora Rd and Outhwaite Rd/Darvall St.

We urge everyone to join this action for safer crossing, and help protect the lives of pedestrians.
