I have lived in Long Beach for some time and have accrued multiple parking tickets per month. These tickets were due to parking my car partially or fully in red zones because there was simply no other place to park my vehicle. Many, like myself, return home from work to find themselves in the same ordeal. The cost of living has already risen past a level that most citizens can manage. Parking tickets can block registration renewal, add late fees if not paid on time, and even cause vehicles to be towed or booted. I have received over 3 tickets per month on average and that number is many more for some. My car was also stolen in Long Beach, and vehicle thefts are on the rise in the city of Long Beach. We as citizens of Long Beach have enough to pay for and should not be subject to robbery by the city as well. The “that’s just the way it is” mentality has kept many injustices alive far longer than necessary at every level of government in US history. It’s time to change the narrative.

Due to the lack of free and fair parking in residential areas in Long Beach, average citizens are being fined daily for parking their cars overnight within red zones because there is simply no place else. Tickets add up quickly and cause undue mental and financial stressors to compound. 

A Long Beach City Parking Ticket Forgiveness plan is needed, excluding red zones containing fire hydrants, where if one can provide proof of residence within the district that the ticket was issued; an equivalent of one ticket per month (12 per year) should be forgiven.
