Implement a One-Way System, Cyclist Track, and Street Lighting on Appleby Lane, Burstwick
Implement a One-Way System, Cyclist Track, and Street Lighting on Appleby Lane, Burstwick
The Issue
Each day, my young children and so many others must trek down Appleby Lane to wait at the bus stop for school or come to the local shop. For elder communities who need access to local shops, this too is their everyday path. It's a realistic demand for safety, not an extravagant wish. The lack of a proper one-way system, absent cycle track, and inadequate street lighting on Appleby Lane in Burstwick present an unnecessary risk to us all, that we bear every single day. Astonishingly, over 40% of pedestrian accidents occur in areas where street lighting is poor or absent. (source: RoSPA, UK).
Converting Appleby Lane into a one-way system can play a significant role in reducing traffic and the associated risks. A study conducted by the Portland Bureau of Transportation found that one-way streets can decrease traffic collisions by as much as 55%. A dedicated cycle track could also significantly enhance safety. According to the International Transport Forum, cyclist fatalities can drop by up to 61% with segregated bike lanes. Illumination is another critical element. Well-lit areas not only deter crime but also contribute substantially to pedestrian safety.
By signing this petition, we aren't just seeking a solution to a transportation issue. We are fighting for a risk-free town for our young ones to grow, for the elder community to go about their lives with less worry and be able to get to the local shop for a safer, more vibrant Burstwick. The time has come to light up Appleby Lane, create a safe cycling track, and implement a one-way traffic system. Please, sign this petition and stand up for the safety of Burstwick residents.
