The Issue

As a concerned member of this community, I have witnessed firsthand the soaring cost of living, exacerbated by new developments that seem to prioritize corporate interests over local welfare. One such development is the rapid approval and construction of data centers. While these data centers might bring technological advancement and potential economic benefits, their impact on our everyday lives and the local environment is far from understood.

Data centers require vast amounts of electricity and water to operate efficiently. A single facility can consume as much energy as a small town and draw millions of gallons of water annually, leading to an increase in utility costs and putting significant strain on our public resources. Moreover, the noise pollution from cooling systems and backup generators can drastically affect the tranquility of our neighborhoods.

Beyond the immediate environmental concerns, these data centers contribute to rising housing costs. Developers buy large parcels of land, often displacing lower-income residents and driving up property prices. The influx of temporary workers can further pressure already limited local housing markets, making it harder for existing residents to find affordable homes.

We cannot overlook the long-term consequences on our community’s infrastructure and quality of life. While innovation is vital, it should never come at the cost of the communities it serves. We urge local government and planners to hold off on approving any new data center projects until comprehensive impact assessments are conducted. This pause will allow for a thorough analysis of the economic, environmental, and social ramifications of these facilities.

Join me in advocating for a balanced approach to technological development. Let's ensure that progress does not come at the expense of our community's well-being. Sign this petition to call for a moratorium on the approval of new data centers until we fully understand their impact.
