I am writing this petition on behalf of my friend who was recently attacked by a Canadian goose at a park in San Jose, CA. This incident is not isolated; many residents have reported similar encounters with these birds. The increasing population of Canadian geese in our city has become more than just an inconvenience - it's now a safety concern.

Canadian geese are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which makes it illegal to harm or kill them without federal permission. However, there are humane methods available for controlling their population and reducing conflicts between humans and geese. One such method is addling - treating eggs to prevent them from hatching.

Implementing a local Geese Addling project in San Jose can help manage the growing number of Canadian geese effectively and humanely. Cities like Denver have already adopted this approach with successful results (Denver Parks & Recreation). By doing so, we can reduce the number of negative interactions between humans and these birds while also maintaining respect for wildlife laws.
