The Issue

On August 30th, 2026, a terrifying incident struck close to home—quite literally. A car veered off course at the intersection of Scott Street and East Street and brushed dangerously close to my house’s gas line. This narrowly averted tragedy is a shocking testament to the dangers of this intersection, which, unfortunately, isn’t a standalone event.

Since 2017, our community has witnessed a troubling frequency of accidents at this very crossroad. One incident involved an elderly woman whose car flipped onto its side—a harrowing experience that impacted not just her but left all of us concerned for our safety. On another occasion, a child riding their bicycle became a victim to the perilous traffic conditions. These incidents are not just statistics to us but very real dangers affecting our friends, families, and neighbors.

Scott Street and East Street's current setup fails to adequately manage the flow of traffic, creating a hazardous environment for both drivers and pedestrians. Vehicles often rush through the intersection with little regard for those around them, increasing the risk of collisions and close calls like the ones we've repeatedly experienced.

The solution is simple yet effective: we need an all-way or four-way stop at this intersection. Such a measure will force vehicles to stop and assess their surroundings, greatly reducing the chance of accidents. A Four-way stop is known to be a cost-effective safety solution that has been proven to regulate traffic flow more efficiently and protect pedestrians in neighborhoods similar to ours.

Let’s urge our local city council and traffic management authorities to prioritize the safety of their citizens and install an all-way stop sign at the intersection. By doing this, we can prevent further accidents and tragedies, making our community safer for everyone.

I urge you to think about the safety of your own loved ones and neighbors. Please join me in signing this petition to demand immediate action from our local authorities. Together, we can make a significant impact on our neighborhood’s safety.
