Implement a Five-Year Prohibition on Dog and Cat Breeding

Implement a Five-Year Prohibition on Dog and Cat Breeding
The Issue
I am personally driven by a profound concern for our beloved pets, particularly dogs and cats. There is a dire need to halt all dog and cat breeding for a minimum of five years. This temporary cessation is crucial not only to alleviate the pressures on our rescue centres, overwhelmed by a staggering number of helpless animals, but also to address the growing issue of animal health problems.
In England and Wales The RSPCA alone takes in over 10,000 Dogs and 30,000 cats each year. Furthermore, the breeding of dogs and cats contributes to genetic problems, causing distress and harm to these animals, and leading to more frequent and severe health issues .
An enforced period of no breeding provides an opportunity to redirect resources towards the care and rehoming of animals already in rescue centres and reduce the proliferation of health problems in dogs and cats caused by unchecked breeding including helping stray cats with health problems who breed with female cats and pass on various feline diseases to mother and the kittens who become very unwell.
For people who would like to adopt dogs in rescue centres who have behavioural issues advice and guidance should be given to potential owners by the rescue. Owners should also be willing to try different methods of training for dogs to ensure the best possible outcome for the dog and the rescue.
This journey starts with a single step, a single signature. Stand alongside me to address this critical issue today and give the Dogs and Cats in Rescue centres a chance to find a loving home. Sign to call on our government agencies to implement a five-year ban on dog and cat breeding. Please sign this petition.
