Domestic violence is a devastating reality that I have personally endured through two marriages. I believed I knew my partners before marrying them, only to discover their abusive nature after we wed. My latest marriage nearly cost me my life. Living through these traumatic experiences has inspired me to take action, not only to heal myself but to help others avoid similar fates.

Domestic violence affects millions of individuals each year, with nearly one in four women and one in nine men experiencing severe intimate partner physical violence, according to data from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). Yet, even with such alarming statistics, there is currently no national registry for domestic violence offenders in place, similar to the sex offender registry. This is a significant gap in our justice system that needs urgent attention.

An accessible registry for domestic violence offenders would allow individuals to make informed decisions about their partners, thus preventing abusive relationships before they even begin. It would also serve as a deterrent for potential abusers, knowing that their actions would be permanently recorded and publicly noted.

We propose the creation of a national registry for domestic violence offenders, which would document charges and convictions. This registry should be maintained by the relevant governmental authorities, accessible to the public, and contain information about repeated offenses. It is essential to break the cycle of violence and give survivors a chance to rebuild their lives with a sense of safety and awareness.
