As firefighters serving Aberbargoed, we confront life-threatening situations and dangerous conditions on a daily basis. This consistent exposure to trauma can result in significant mental health challenges. It's a personal struggle we've experienced, requiring us, more than ever, to find support in the aftermath of incidents. We believe introducing a rescue dog to reside at our station can provide a significant improvement to our mental well-being. Dogs, through their unwavering companionship and emotional sensitivity, have been known to contribute positively to human mental health. In the same vein, Fire and Rescue Services across the UK have already begun introducing canine support programs acknowledging the benefits for their teams' mental health and morale (Fire and Rescue Services Guidelines). We urge the overseeing body of Aberbargoed Fire Station to follow suit and integrate a canine support program in our station, for our mental welfare.
