My children, and others like them, are confronted daily with the risk of a serious accident on their home street, Paseo de Las Flores. Ever since Fox Point Farms has started using the street for overflow parking, it has become increasingly hazardous for children and cyclists alike. The availability of safe areas for biking and walking are being overtaken by parked cars, effectively pushing our young ones and cyclists into the path of moving vehicles. This is not just a worry for my family, but a concern shared by our entire neighborhood. As much as 70% of traffic fatalities in urban areas involve vulnerable road users, a category that includes cyclists (source: World Health Organization). Ensuring the construction of a separate bike lane on Paseo de Las Flores will mitigate this alarming risk and deliver peace of mind to our community, guaranteeing a safer environment for our kids to play, and for everyone else to bike.
