I've always loved celebrating occasions with my family, my pets included. Every year, these celebrations have come with a cost - the silent but severe distress faced by my beloved pets due to the loud fireworks. Not to mention, wildlife and veterans with PTSD are also deeply affected.

Numerous studies have exposed the negative effects of loud fireworks, not just on domestic animals, but also on wild birds, wildlife, and PTSD sufferers. Animals' hearing is many times more sensitive than ours. According to The Humane Society, the explosions caused by fireworks can lead to “fear, stress, and anxiety in wild animals”(Humane Society). In addition, The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs states that abrupt noises can often be triggering for veterans dealing with PTSD.

Another point is our environment. The after effect of the fireworks and bonfires is the smoke, adding to the air pollution, noise and somewhat light pollution.

This rampant issue needs addressing urgently. Therefore, we urgently request the ban of all non-silent fireworks. Fireworks should be made permissible only if they are silent, thus guaranteeing the well-being of our pets, wildlife, and PTSD sufferers.
