Last year, my dog was spooked by nearby fireworks while it was still semi daylight. He ran home in fear but has been terrified of loud noises ever since. Despite making progress over the past year, the return of fireworks season has him cowering and hiding in my bedroom once again.

This personal experience is not unique. Many pet owners share similar stories about their beloved animals being traumatized by the loud bangs from fireworks. According to a study conducted by RSPCA, 45% of dogs in the UK show signs of fear when they hear fireworks (RSPCA, 2020). This distress can lead to long-term trauma and behavioral issues.

Fireworks are not only harmful to pets but also affect wildlife and people suffering from noise sensitivity disorders like hyperacusis or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
We propose a ban on loud fireworks and advocate for silent ones instead. Silent fireworks provide all the visual spectacle without causing distress due to excessive noise levels.
