Implement a Ban on Home Fireworks Within City Limits

Implement a Ban on Home Fireworks Within City Limits
The Issue
As a witness to the harmful effects of fireworks, I implore you to take into consideration the often overlooked environmental and mental damage that home fireworks within our city limits can cause. Over time, the remnants of our explosive celebrations have proven toxic, with black powder debris and smoke littering our air, impacting our trees, plants, and wildlife. Not to mention, we humans are also breathing in this toxic concoction.
Aside from the environmental harm, the noise produced by these fireworks is absolutely ear-shattering. It penetrates homes, disrupting the peace and tranquility of our living spaces. The deafening sounds are terrifying to animals who are sent scrambling to find shelter.
Perhaps most importantly, the ruckus created by fireworks appears to have detrimental effects on veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These brave individuals, who have already given so much, are further traumatized by the relentless barrage of sounds. Many are forced to sedate themselves to sleep through it, sometimes triggering horrible nightmares.
The concerns are not unfounded, a study published in The Lancet Psychiatry details how public spectacles such as fireworks can trigger severe reactions in those with PTSD (Sareen J, 2015).
Now, knowing the impact, we must ask ourselves – is a moment's pleasure worth the ongoing harm? Let us seize this chance to make our city a safer, more compassionate place for both inhabitants and the environment. Join me in voicing our demand for a ban on at-home fireworks within city limits. Please sign this petition today.
