The Issue

Declawing is a surgical procedure that often leads to a lifetime of pain and behavioral issues for cats. Despite the American Veterinary Medical Association describing declawing as "an amputation and should be regarded as a major surgery," it is still practiced within numerous AAHA Accredited Animal Hospitals in Louisiana. This procedure not only removes a cat's primary method of defense but has also been linked to long-term physical complications such as lameness, arthritis, and painful paw pad calluses. Behavioral issues that can arise from this also include aggressiveness and increased biting. Many countries and some U.S states have already banned this procedure recognizing it as inhumane. In order to protect our feline friends, it is essential to put this cruel practice to an end within Louisiana too. Let's urge the AAHA Accredited Animal Hospitals in Louisiana to ban the act of declawing and to consider the welfare and rights of the pets they serve.
