The City of Milford recently did a salary study to update employee pay, using cost-of-living adjustments and comparing jobs to similar roles in other cities. But the study doesn’t say which cities were used for each job comparison. Some positions were compared to just 2 cities, while others were compared to as many as 10, which raises questions about how consistent or reliable the comparisons really were.
Even with those gaps, the city used the report to justify setting the City Manager’s salary at $195,000. What’s strange is that while they used cost-of-living adjustments for most employees, that same approach wasn’t followed for the City Manager. Instead, the salary chosen is identical to what the Town Manager in Smyrna makes. That inconsistency makes it hard not to question whether the process was truly fair or transparent.
Budget Review's are on Town Council schedule for Monday and Thursday this week at 6:00pm City Hall or Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/94520526717
