Firework holidays, while a time of celebration for many, are the most dreaded days of the year for our beloved pets. The loud noises terrify them, causing them to enter a fight or flight mode that often results in injuries and even death on our streets. As a concerned citizen and pet lover, I have witnessed firsthand how animals are left to suffer with little to no help from animal control.

This is not just an isolated issue. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 10 million pets go missing each year in the United States alone, with a significant increase during firework holidays such as July 4th and New Year's Eve. This is an alarming statistic that we cannot ignore.

We are calling on local authorities in California to implement mandatory 24/7 animal control patrol during all firework holidays. We also request that shelters open their night drops for non-injured pets and actively patrol neighborhoods just like our police force does - picking up stray and injured pets, providing them safety until they can be reunited with their owners.

The lack of sufficient support from animal control services during these critical times is unacceptable. Our furry friends deserve better protection against the dangers they face during these events.
