Black Women In Charge started this petition to IMPD General Orders Review Board and

With hope of bringing justice in the wake of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Dreasjon Reed Black Women In Charge, Inc. began to gather pertinent information regarding the truth behind the badge and the inner-workings of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. The information gathered led us to focus on nine General Orders that need revision including: Use of Force - Principles, Warrant and Force Entry, Search and Seizure, Drug Recognition Expert, Investigation and Reporting, Grievance Procedures, Discipline Matrix, Glossary, and Rules and Regulations.

The modification of these documents was done tediously and is considerate of the police perspective, citizen perspective, and reality of policing. After completing the initial revisions Black Women In Charge, Inc received input from officers, sergeants, the Chief of Police, lawyers (including the Mayor of Indianapolis, the Marion County Prosecutor, BreAnna Smith, and more), and other citizens to revise a second time. At this point The Realigned Nine have been through 4 rounds of revisions, and is open to one last review by all Indianapolis Citizen’s before it is presented to the General Orders Review Board. The policy change will increase public safety, enhance community and police relations, and protect human rights & constitutional rights.

The General Orders Review Board has ultimate discretion over the policy, so if you want to support Black Women In Charge, Inc. revisions of The Realigned Nine General Orders sign this petition! Your signature is very much appreciated as it will confirm that these revisions are the will of the people of Indianapolis.
