My name is Scott Mailman.
Thank you everyone for your for your wonderful support and kind words. I can not express my gratitude enough to the people of Canada for supporting my family during this time.
Great news, I have personally received conformation from the Honourable John McCallum, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. Confirming that my Permanent Residency has been approved.
On behalf of myself, my daughter Sydney, her Grandparents Ray and Teresa, and all my wonderful friends, Id personally like to thank the Honourable John McCallum for his decision.
This certainly is a great country. Thank you Canada.
New Zealander Scott Mailman recently lost his Canadian wife Lisa Chapman to cancer. The couple lived in Canada with their young daughter Sydney. Scott and Lisa returned to Canada because it was Lisa’s wish for Sydney to grow up here, close to her family.
Lisa was Scott’s sponsor for permanent residency in Canada, and they were awaiting approval of his application from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. A few hours after Lisa passed away, Scott was contacted by immigration for the final interview in his application process, but the call came too late. Since then, Scott has been told twice that he has to leave Canada.
Despite having the legal right to apply for permanent residency in Canada, being legally employed in Canada, having lived legally in Canada, and having gone through all the legal channels to try and gain permanent residency, Scott will now be forced to leave. The simple reason for this is that Lisa passed away before Scott’s two-year old application was approved by our immigration department.
Having just recently lost their mother and spouse, Sydney and Scott will now be forced to leave Canada, thereby tearing Sydney away from her maternal grandparents. Sydney’s maternal grandmother is unwell to ever safely make a flight to New Zealand, and may therefore never be able to see Sydney again. The entire situation is sad, cruel, and unjust.
When I read about their story in the news, I wanted to do something to help. That’s why I started this petition to ask the Minister of Immigration to intervene - he has the power to allow Scott and Sydney to stay in Canada.

I hope you will add your name to this petition to support Scott’s wish to stay in Canada. Thank you!
