Immediately Withdraw AGI Application for Rent Increase at 2900 Carling Ave
The Issue
We are tenants at 2900 Carling Avenue in Ottawa. On December 1, 2023, we were notified by our property manager that Timbercreek Asset Management has filed an application for an Above Guideline Increase (AGI) to our rent of approximately 7% when the guideline in place by the government of Ontario is 2.5%!!
This is not the first time that Timbercreek has applied for an AGI in our community. It also happened in 2020 and the community stood up (CBC News). It’s time to stand up again. Enough is enough!
Our petition is below:
Petition for Timbercreek Asset Management to Immediately Withdraw their Application for an Above the Guideline Increase (AGI) for 2900 Carling Avenue
TO: Timbercreek Asset Management
Whereas housing is a Human Right.
Whereas rental rates in Ottawa and across Ontario are increasingly unaffordable.
Whereas paying to maintain a building should be the responsibility of the landlord.
Whereas Above the Guideline Rent Increases can increase rent well over what people can afford.
We the undersigned residents of 2900 Carling Avenue, petition Timbercreek Asset Management to: immediately withdraw their Above the Guideline Increase application and ensure that the rents of all tenants at 2900 Carling Avenue does not exceed the guideline of 2.5% set by the government of Ontario.
