One more innocent soul

In continuance with the work am doing on child safety, am going to take up this issue politically as that's where the action is lacking. All of you who think, don't make it political please rethink. We need a platform to push reforms. And a right one. Politicians are the ones who have the power. Common people like us have been shunning politics, thus giving them a free run all these days. Its time good people with vision and passion come in to politics. Anyone from any party is welcome to join me in this fight. All suggestions are welcome. We need to fight the system. This is not a personal attack on any one. One more innocent soul. It shouldn't end like just one more incident. One more protest. This time we should give voice to all those who are suffering silently, all those poor people coming to government hospitals, almost 15 cases a day, of which very few actually get reported. 64 cases registered under POCSO, from 2013, didn't even come for a hearing in the Fast Track courts. We need not just fast track courts, but fast track process of bringing the accused to court in the first place. Whats stopping the police to file a charge sheet in the Vibgyor case. Why is there no accountability fixed? There is a need to completely overhaul, bring in coordination, fix accountability and quick disposal of cases between different organisations involved here. As many as 6 departments and organisations are involved in this. Added to this, there are NGO's helping the government. The Women and child development department has come up with draft check list for child safety. As much as there are enough measures suggested, there is no accountability fixed or a body to overlook the implementation of these measures. What we need the government to fix - 1.Fix accountability in Police and government departments dealing with such cases, so that judiciary can dispose off the cases with in stipulated time. 2.Launch of major awareness drives regarding POCSO in all schools and institutions and all kinds of media by the Government, followed up by measuring outcomes. 3.Awareness to Police on POCSO and sensitization towards handling kids involved. 4.Awareness and training to Primary Health Center Doctors on handling victims. 5.Implement one stop rape crisis centers immediately, preferably in existing district health centers. 6.Make disbursal of interim compensations to families affected after filing charge sheet, to cope up with the expenses of travelling to courts and for their livelihood. Many of them are from poor communities, daily laborers. 7.Security guards and maintenance of records of entry and exit should be made mandatory at every school. Right now, there are no security guards, at most of the primary schools run by government. 8.Modernize and equip the Forensic lab of Karnataka. Many cases are sent to Hyderabad for tests. This leads to delay in justice. What we need to fix as a community - 1.We should take initiative to establish PTAs in all schools and SDMCs ( school development monitoring committee) where applicable. 2.Awareness to kids through easy and simple videos available online 3.Helping the NGOs already involved in this work.
