Here is some additional information:
I have reached out to southwick’s zoo august 30th with information and concern, followed up september 2nd as there was a lack of response. On september 2nd I received an email from guest services that they will strive to make improvements. It is now october and there is a significant lack of change.
The rabbit located in the zoo, on display appears to be a domesticated rabbit breed. Domesticated rabbits are companion animals—no different than dogs or cats in that regard. Keeping a pet rabbit in a zoo setting is both inappropriate and misleading to the public. Just as there are no dogs or cats exhibited as “zoo animals,” a domesticated rabbit should not be displayed as one either.
If your able, please share this petition and help advocate for smaller animals.
