The Issue

The iconic Imperial Sugar Factory in Sugar Land, Texas, stands as a historic landmark within our community, with its roots deeply embedded in the culture and heritage of our city. The large cross in the factory windows has been a guiding beacon for locals and travelers alike, symbolizing hope, resilience, and the spirit of Sugar Land. Regrettably, of late, this symbol has been left unilluminated, dimming a part of our shared identity.

In illuminating the cross, we invoke not just light but a sense of unity and pride among the residents of Sugar Land. The illuminated cross serves as a tribute to the legacy of the Imperial Sugar Company, paying homage to the generations that built and sustained our community.

As responsible stewards of our city’s treasures, it's essential we take action to ensure the cross is illuminated once more. The City of Sugar Land has the opportunity to reinstate not only an architectural feature but a symbol of community and communal spirit.

We urge the city council and relevant authorities to allocate resources and take necessary measures to ensure that the cross is relit. There is a collective desire among the residents for the cross to shine brightly again, illuminating not just our nights, but also our spirit as a community.

Please sign this petition to support the illumination of the cross at the Imperial Sugar Factory. Let’s bring light and life back to this cherished emblem of Sugar Land.
