The Issue

As a frequent user of the Arbutus Greenway, I've noticed how crucial this pathway is to our community in Kerrisdale, Sea Island, and Vancouver. It's not just a road; it's a lifeline for many - from the elderly who enjoy their evening strolls, families with young children in strollers, individuals with disabilities seeking accessibility, to people commuting to work or home. However, as seasons change and daylight hours shorten after 4pm during certain times of the year, it becomes increasingly unsafe to use this path.

The solution? Solar street lights. By installing these along dark areas of the Greenway (specifically from 49ave to SW Marine and 37ave onward), we can ensure that everyone can continue their activities safely into the evening until at least 9 or 10pm all year round.

Solar street lights are not only sustainable but also cost-effective in terms of maintenance and energy consumption. They would significantly enhance safety without contributing negatively towards our carbon footprint.

This isn't just about convenience; it's about ensuring that everyone in our community has equal access to public spaces regardless of time or season. Let's light up Arbutus Greenway for better safety and inclusivity! Please sign this petition if you agree that solar street lights should be installed along these sections of our beloved pathway.
