For too many residents in our community, including myself, the darkness that invades our streets once the sun sets is more than just a daily event - it's a safety concern. The glaring lack of adequate street lighting turns our neighborhood into pitch black shadow, creating an environment ripe for accidents and crime.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, roadway lighting can reduce crashes by 25-50%. Even more, the Department of Justice states in their report that improved street lighting can help reduce crime by 21%. We are backed up by compelling statistics, yet our pleas for safe, illuminated streets remain unheard.

This petition is not just about installing more lights; it's about investing in our safety, our peace of mind, and the overall quality of life in our community. Collectively, we are urging local officials and the department of public works to fulfil their responsibilities, prioritizing the implementation of an effective and comprehensive street lighting system in our neighborhoods. If the small town of Allport can make it happen so can we!
