Hinsdale Residents Against I-294 Expansion
This petition had 670 supporters
The undersigned, residents of the Village of Hinsdale, strenuously object to the currently proposed Illinois Tollway Authority Central Tri-State Project to expand Interstate 294 from Balmoral Avenue to 95th Street particularly those aspects of the Project that border the eastern boundary of the Village of Hinsdale. The plan as proposed would have a significant and negative impact on the Village of Hinsdale and its residents. The current expansion plan would mean the loss of valued green space in both Village parks and residential yards, increased traffic noise and loss of mature trees. These circumstances would result in a potential significant loss in property values, especially in the Woodlands and eastern neighborhoods of the Village. In addition, the expansion means the possible and likely elimination, in whole or in part, of the Hinsdale Oasis which would threaten a devastating reduction in the Village annual tax revenue by over $500,000. For these reasons, the undersigned ask that the Illinois Tollway Authority immediately stop all of its current plans relating to the widening and expansion of Interstate 294 including the reconstruction of the Hinsdale BNSF bridge and any and all other plans pursuant to the Central Tri State Project currently under consideration. We further ask that the authority consider alternative plans that would eliminate the concerns raised above.
