Bring Marriage Equality to Illinois

The Issue

Now is the time to pass marriage equality in Illinois – Stand with Us. This year, big steps were taken to secure the freedom to marry for all Americans; however here in Illinois, our legislature has fallen short.

The Illinois Senate passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage in February, yet the House of Representatives stalled and said they needed to speak with their constituents before voting.

They must hear from you. Tell your legislators that the time for marriage equality is now. Let’s send the message to the House that we cannot wait any longer. Same-sex couples in Illinois can form civil unions and yet, without the right to marry, same-sex couples are still prevented from receiving important federal benefits.

Despite the great nation-wide victories for same-sex couples, the State of Illinois has failed to grant equality to its citizens. This cannot continue – as governor, I plan to do everything in my power to fight for this fundamental fairness. Now is the time for our state legislators not only to listen, but also act on behalf of the LGBT community.

It is crucial that our state legislators hear from you.  Illinois cannot wait any longer – the right for all to marry is long overdue. Join me to in my dedication to make the state of Illinois the fourteenth state to support marriage equality.
