Have someone hold your Dog for two years and not let you see him or her potentially ever again. This is exactly what happened to one such man who never gave up hope or fighting, and through this "Peppers Bill" was created. Your support is desperately needed as we struggle to make Illinois the first State to recognize our loving pets as living breathing beings when involved in divorce and or custody issues. (ChicagoTribune)
Voices For Pets (VFP) represents the beginning of a new beginning and representation for Animal Recognition during custody struggles giving pet owners and their loving pets a voice when civil arrangement necessitates. "Peppers Bill" was created by one man and his efforts that made National headlines when he failed to waiver in his fight to see his dog ever again after two long years of his dog being held. After countless hours, hearings, appeals, and thousands of dollars, Pepper successfully found his way back home. This could have been avoided.
Currently our pets are viewed as property similar to a table and or lamp while being subject to the same measures when dividing household possessions. "Peppers Bill" represents a first one of a kind Bill being drafted in the State of Illinois recognizing our loved ones during these difficult times in response to public outcry, and the countless similar cases across the Country. This needs to change one State at a time first by making Illinois set precedence in making a bold move in becoming the first State to change these archaic practices. In response to over 50% of marriages ending in divorce while most of those homes house a pet, creates the need to avoid unnecessary litigation, wasted court hours, in addition to displaced pets. "Peppers Bill" represents a growing trend in pet recognition trials across the Country during divorce that is long overdue exemplified by what Pepper and his rightful owner experienced.
Pepper an English Labrador, although two years older is very much alive today yet now resides with his loving owner. We invite you to read Peppers story while your support is most welcome, in addition we encourage you to read the Bill and contact your local State Assemblymen when being introduced and pushed threw the Illinois General Assembly. We welcome your support and contact. Your signature is greatly appreciated.
