Do Not Allow Clean Energy Partners the power of eminent domain for the Grain Belt Express.

The Issue

I am opposed to granting Clean Line Energy Partners the power of eminent domain for the Grain Belt Express project.  These are private for-profit non-utility companies simply passing through Illinois and tearing up Illinois farmland and woods in their wake.  It does not supply power to the local electric cooperative or AMEREN Illinois. The wind farms that it proposes to transport energy from have not been built.  Neither does it have any identified customers for the energy to be transported to.   Eleven of the East coast governors have stated that they want to develop their own renewable energy resources and do not want Midwest wind power.

Grain Belt Express has 2 routes that it is considering using to go through the Illinois countryside.  A portion of fertile farm land that they propose to use for Route 1 has been in my family for over 100 years.  It is located in Shelby County, Prairie Township. My great grandparents would be appalled at the destruction this line will cause to the family farm. This same proposed route goes within ¼ mile of the local high school and grade school.  Many studies have concluded that the electromagnetic field caused by such lines are carcinogenic.  This would be detrimental to the health of our residents for years to come.

The alternate route will destroy an area that is currently a Hunting Preserve located in Shelby County, Holland Township.  The restoration of a natural quail covey has been underway for years on this land.  The noise and electromagnetic field will chase them away.  This natural wooded deer haven will also be destroyed by the noise and electromagnetic field.  100+ year old oak trees will be bulldozed down and will not be re-established for generations to come.  This wildlife refuge is used by many in our surrounding communities for recreation, fundraising events, and even a food source.

Please vote no to allowing the Grain Belt Express project.
