Lack of adequate building maintenance inhibits our children from performing at their best.  Kenwood Academy administration has gone above and beyond to provide a safe and healthy building environment. Failed health inspections and a failing HVAC system yields a substandard academic environment for students, faculty and community. Management of these areas has been outsourced without adequate supervision and accountability. Partial repair and replacement of our HVAC system and components is no longer effective.

We urge the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), the Chicago Board of Education and the Chicago City Council to honor its commitment to provide a safe and healthy environment for students and their families, faculty and community members. This can ONLY be accomplished  by adequately FUNDING and STAFFING engineering and custodial departments to ensure building conditions are improved and maintained over time.  

We request funding for the following community initiatives

1. Thorough Deep Clean of all ducts and vents apart of the HVAC system  before school resumes in the fall (2017-2018 School Yr)  

2. Fully staff the engineering and custodial departments to maintain ongoing repair and building cleanliness

3. Full asbestos abatement 

4. Full replacement of the HVAC system
