Great news - Progress has been made

A big step forward this morning on the Marple Aqueduct dumping and parking issues.

The Council has now sent notices to the businesses in the business park by the Aqueduct, making it clear that they are not permitted to store, dump, park or otherwise leave vehicles on the access road to the Aqueduct.

This is alongside confirmation that nobody has permission to park down by the Aqueduct itself, including canal boat owners, members of the public or local businesses.

And it has already had an impact — since the notices went out, around half of the vehicles that were being left here have been removed by their owners. There are still quite a few remaining, so we're not there yet, but this is a really significant step forward.

We're now waiting for the Canal & River Trust to put appropriate signage in place making it absolutely clear that there is no public parking down there. Hopefully, between the Council's action and clear signage from CRT, we can finally get on top of one of the issues that has contributed to the dumping around the Aqueduct.

Thank you again to everyone who signed the petition and supported us. There's still work to do, but it is really encouraging to finally see some action and some visible progress.
