A win! But monitoring needed for the future.

Really good news today — we have had a huge win at Marple Aqueduct.

As of today, all but one of the vehicles have now been removed from the access road. At times there have been more than 20 vehicles parked and stored down there, so to be down to just one is a massive change.

Police, Council and recovery vehicles attended yesterday and were instrumental in ensuring the vehicles were removed by the 19 August deadline that had been communicated to the businesses. There is unfortunately still one vehicle remaining, but the Council has committed to removing it on Monday if the owner has not done so by then.

Unfortunately, it appears that ADC Vehicle Services are continuing to use the disabled parking space for an employee's vehicle who is not a blue badge holder. This information been passed to the Council, who have confirmed that they will be taking further action.

There is still more to do, particularly around signage and making sure the area doesn't gradually creep back to how it was before. The Council and Canal & River Trust have committed to continuing to address this, but I think it is also important that we celebrate a win when we have one.

Going from 20+ vehicles at times to just one is a really significant result. Thank you again to everyone who signed the petition, reported issues and helped keep the pressure on. We now need to make sure it stays this way.
