Illegal cruelty exposed: Take action for Europe’s pigs
The Issue
“Every time you open the door to one of these farms, you tell yourself: ‘it will be better than the last’... then you see the pigs, and realise the scale of the suffering. It breaks your heart.” – Compassion in World Farming Investigator.
It seems incredible in our ‘civilised’ societies but, across Europe, pigs are suffering terrible, illegal cruelty. Over the past year, Compassion in World Farming's undercover investigation team visited 45 pig farms in six EU nations. Time and again, they found shocking breaches of pig welfare law:
•Animals living in appallingly cramped, barren pens, without any bedding or straw to root in
•Routine mutilations – in all but one farm, the tail of every single pig had been docked
•Filthy conditions, with pigs forced to lie in their own excrement.
We need you to demand that EU Ministers end this suffering. In a series of events and petitions across Europe, over 300,000 citizens have already added their voice. Please join them today.
You could help change millions of lives by signing this petition. Our politicians must be held to account for their failure to protect Europe’s pigs. Thank you!
