Dear IKEA,

We think it’s time you stopped the cruel and environmentally harmful practice of selling unnecessary animal products. You sell lots of synthetic and faux products alongside of them so you know already that there are great alternatives!

According to the World Wildlife Federation, “leather is a byproduct of the cattle industry, a major culprit of deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions globally.” Leather tanning produces harmful byproducts that harm workers and the planet. 

PETA has exposed that not only are wool and other sheep products not sustainable and environmentally friendly, but that the level of cruelty to sheep is unimaginable. Sheep are sometimes skinned alive so that you can have those sheepskins you sell. Does this line up with IKEA’s stated values?

Feathers are also part of an environmentally unsafe industry. Animals and workers are exploited and abused. Ducks and geese are tortured over and over again for corporate greed while there are so many good alternatives, some of which you already sell!

As part of your stated commitment for a greener world, we are asking you to eliminate these products and be a global leader for change! We believe you can make a huge positive impact in the world and can’t wait to support you in this!

There is no better time than now to end animal cruelty and end the environmentally harmful impact of the leather, wool and feather industries.
