IKEA, Please Take Precautions to Minimize Avian and Bat Fatalities at Your Wind Turbine Farms in Canada

The Issue

IKEA has recently purchased a wind turbine farm in Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada. While the change to greener energy is a commenable and important stance to take, we are concerned about the impact this will have on Canadian Wildlife - specifically birds and bats. Statistics show that more than 10,000 bats and as many as 573,000 birds are killed from wind turbines annually.

Please sign and encourage IKEA to take precautions to prevent some of these fatalities by employing Bird-Smart wind power practices. Bird-smart wind power implements careful siting considerations, operation and construction mitigation, bird monitoring, and compensation to reduce and redress unavoidable bird mortality and habitat loss. IKEA, please create and share an avian and bat protection plan.
