Deserved be allowed to take IITJEE Advanced a third time starting this year
The Issue
Being one of the most competitive exam of the country, clearing IITJEE Advanced is the dream of most aspiring engineers of the country. Many attempt it and succeed, and many fail.
Some students due to lack of information, don't give advance the year they compete their 12th, and take a drop to prepare, give it next year, and realize they will not even get a second chance.
Some students, even after clearing it first time, don't get good ranks, and plan to take it the second time to get better ranks. And sometimes, these past clearers don't make it this time. I am one of them.
In my first attempt, I cleared JEE Advanced, but didn't get a good rank. After taking a drop for one year, I reattempted it. But this time, was not able to clear it. Although I secured more overall marks than my previous attempt, but due to bad time-management and little illness, couldn't make it in one subject.I feel I could have done way better, and this made me depressed. I started regretting about my drop of one year, and that all my efforts went in vain. Now I am currently studying in a tier-3 college, but planning to give mains again.
I cannot change the past, but together we can change the future for me and thousands others who think they have the potential to make it. Jee Mains has three attempts, and students do prepare for it again. Increasing the number of attempts of JEE Advanced for everyone will not be suitable. Many students who don't want to give it a chance a third time will be forced to do so, due to family or peer-pressure. This will not profit the children and instead make them more depressed if they will not be able to clear it the third time. Those who know they can't make it, will prepare separately, which will take a part of their time which could be utilized in a better way if they were not preparing for it, and could degrade their results if they are already studying in another institution.
The solution is to make the third attempt available only to those, who are able to secure top ranks in JEE Mains in the third year, and to those who didn't even get the second chance. The threshold be discussed and decided wisely, but at least be top 2500 ranks. The syllabus of both exams is nearly same, and if a student is able to clear the threshold, means he has a good concept clearance, doesn't need to prepare separately and will be able to get clear Advanced and get a good rank. The other students can continue what they are currently doing. This encourages the students to choose wisely what they want.
I appeal all of you to support me and spread this message to all the students as soon as you can, as the exams are near, and if the action is delayed, then we third attempters will not be able to give the exams for the rest of our life and miss this golden opportunity, the dream that everyone sees.
Thank you,
a fellow student aspiring to pursue UG from the prestigious institutes.
