431 people have now signed my petition.
When I first started speaking up, it came from my own experience of feeling ignored, judged, and discharged — and from seeing how deeply rural patients and families are affected when they are not heard.
Since then, I have connected with Chris and Deb Brooks from the Ryan Bowman Legacy of Care Foundation, and I have learned more about Ryan’s Voice.
Their work is focused on creating a clear escalation pathway for patients, families, and carers when they believe someone is deteriorating, unsafe, or not being listened to — similar to Ryan’s Rule in Queensland.
Although our stories are different, the core issue is the same:
patients and families must be heard before things reach crisis point.
Ryan’s Voice is not only about one family. My petition is not only about one experience. Both are about changing a system that too often leaves people feeling powerless when they are asking for help.
I believe these causes strongly connect.
Ryan’s Voice could help South Australian families have a clearer way to escalate concerns in hospital settings.
My petition is also calling for better communication, mental health training, patient experience, follow-up, and accountability in rural healthcare.
Together, these issues show why lived experience must be part of health reform.
Please consider signing and sharing both petitions.
Every signature helps show that South Australians want safer, more respectful, more accountable healthcare — no matter where they live.
