The Issue

We, the residents of Parkside Homes, Balgriffin Dublin 13, built by Cairn Homes, are grappling with an increasingly distressing situation in our locality - our beautiful Parkside is being marred by safety concerns. With population growth in the area, the area has become exposed to a dysfunctional mechanism marked by high-speed electric bike riding, primarily by children. The absence of speed gates and speed breakers to control the reckless speeding and an overall lack of sufficient lighting has caused a significant amount of distress within the community.

This situation has led us to contact the Dublin City Council, only to be instructed to direct our concerns towards Cairn Homes, the owners of the land. However, Cairn Homes' obsession with the potential hindrance in the transfer of ownership has left our complaints unheard and unresolved. The adamant stance of both, the Council and Cairn Homes, towards an issue that is clearly a threat to public safety is nothing less than disappointing.

We implore the necessary authorities to prioritize public safety over bureaucratic red tape. For the sake of the children, our families and our community, we demand immediate attention and resolution to the concerns raised. Installing speed gates, speed breakers, and additional lights in Parkside Park is not just an administrative matter, it is an urgent call for safeguarding lives. So, we urge you to sign this petition to implement the following safety measures swiftly and efficiently.

1. Chicane gates on the cycle lanes

2. Speed breakers on the roads near the Parkside Park, junctions and near the turns.

3. Children at Play signboards. Also Pedestrian crossing between junctions for example Walker Green and Walker Grove.

According to the World Health Organization, accidents caused due to high-speed biking are one of the primary causes for accidental children deaths globally. While this statistic is indeed harrowing, it is sadly very real and relevant to our situation. The immediate need for speed control measures and additional lighting in our cherished Parkside is undeniable.
