Stop the inhumane treatment of dogs in the Iditarod Dog Sled Competitions

The Issue

The basic treatment of the sled dogs by specific mushers is inhumane. There needs to be better medical treatment, housing, food and water supply for these animals.

These innocent creatures are chained and forgotten until it is time for them to race to make money.  They are often made to race with arthritis, bleeding and infected wounds, diarrhea, respiratory infections, and other ailments. They only have a barrel or wooden shack with no bedding or hay to shield them from the subzero temperatures in Alaska. They are fed mushy moldy food and most times their water is frozen so they are not able to drink.  They get no interaction from other dogs or humans.

Put stricter standards on the mushers responsible for the care of these animals. There also needs to be punishment for those who don't comply.
