Idaho Power changes to Solar Customers

The Issue

Idaho Power has proposed a change to the Solar Panel incentive program.  Currently you are charged for the power you use in a month.  They take one reading a month, what ever you used you are billed for, if there is extra they can either pay you or take a credit.

The proposed changes will monitor it hourly, Pay the home owner a small portion during the day time, then at night will charge the homeowner for any usage.

At the end of the 8 yr roll out plan customers will receive 0.04 cents an hour while Idaho Power will charge 0.08 cents to a non solar customer.  Then at night charge the solar home owner for additional night time usage.

For many of us, the solar credits we are banking in the summer help get us thru the days of inversion and short winter days.  The current structure is working great for both Idaho Power and Solar users.

Idaho Power has not provided the needed upgrades, but is having the solar companies purchase and install them.  The homeowner is purchasing the equipment with a Federal Grant program but still paying a significant amount, many times financing upto 20 years.

December 3rd is the meeting to finalize this arrangement,  Please join a cause and let  Idaho Public Utilities Commission know that we like things they are currently laid out.  Idaho Power is not upgrading or having any expense to have its customers go solar, the change at this time is unwarranted.

Please stand with us and let the Idaho Public Utilities know that we do not support this proposal.
