Maintain free parking at Dunboyne train station

The Issue

After four years, on the 3rd of September Iarnród Éireann / Irish Rail have decided to re-introduce parking fees in the train station in Dunboyne.

The following rates will apply - €3.50 a day / €9.00 a week, €30 a month or €360 a year. Car parking fees will be collected by a private company (APCOA) and parking will be cashless so you will have to sign up for direct payments to be taken from your bank account.

There is no plans for consumers to receive any additional services for these fees. For regular commuters in and out of the city, this is an additional minimum cost of €360 per annum - on top of what we have to pay for an overcrowded and under serviced rail service.  Not only that, but Irish Rail in their wisdom, are charging a 7 day weekly rate of € 9 - do they even realize there are no trains running on Saturdays and Sundays?

This car park lay empty for years until the fees were dropped in 2014, and will be empty again now as commuters are forced to drive the extra distance to the (free, for now) M3 parkway.

More emissions, more pollution, longer commute times for already under pressure workers.
