Here is the most recent update...Seaside has cleared out all illegal camping in the park on their end. There are currently no camps in the Southeast section. Some camps have moved back in at the Virgin Avenue area, cleared new paths, cut down full grown trees. Monterey City has been tied up with other things, but in a couple of weeks will be clearing those camps out again. A meeting with Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks last week confirmed they are the "land owners", not Seaside. All actions and activities are to be approved by them. They are very interested in the proposal for the park. Before things move forward, they first need to meet with the cities and reaffirm roles and responsibilities. So far the news is good, progress is being made, slow as it is. What has this petition done? I thank everyone for their signatures. The petition definitely is making an impact. Seaside City put enforcement as a priority. However, we still are not done. They are only prioritizing this project while the public eye is on them. If the public eye wanders, they will most likely stop enforcement actions. Please keep spreading the petition and contacting the city. Only the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you have not seen it yet, here is a more in depth Q&A on the park and the campaign... http://www.montereyaudubon.org/lg_park_public_notice.pdf
