On June 21st 2015, our family took a vacation to the Lake of Ozarks. What started out as excitement, laughter, fishing and family fun all came to a complete halt in only 6 hours of being there. Marcus Colburn only 21 years young was killed from electricity coming off the dock into the water at the rental property our entire family was staying at. Marcus was a dedicated hard worker with two jobs working with his father at the National Railway & Shorty's pizza in East Moline, Illinois. He loved fishing, hanging with his friends and absolutely adored his girlfriend, Taylor. Marcus was such a humble human being who has left behind his father, mother, two siblings, girlfriend, friends, family and people who weren't family but blessed to have met him in such a short life that he was able to live. This brings me to why I am starting this petition. Marcus is not the only person who lost their life to such a horrible traumatizing accident. There have been children among other people over the years, continuous cases of electricity in the water keep happening. Which brings me to this, a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) placed at the docks juncture with the seawall. This one device prevents shocks in the case of short circuits. Electric current can be felt as far as 240 ft from any dock that has electric current coming off it. Lake of Ozarks fire marshal davis stated in a article of Lake of Ozarks business journal written by Nancy Zoellner-Hogland "what's even worse is that you can take care of your dock but if your neighbor doesn't take of his, you can be injured or killed". This petition won't bring Marcus back but it will make a HUGE difference in saving lifes, and preventing such major tragedies . It will bring a voice to everyone including those little children and Marcus, who are no longer with us.
