Dog parks are the fastest growing amenity in the United States over the past 20 plus years. The closest dog park to Beeville, Texas is 48 miles. There are over 36,000 residents in Bee County and over 14,000 residents in Beeville. Based on the national average of pet ownership, we estimate roughly half of our community members own a dog.

According to a 2018 study conducted by the National Recreation and Park Association, 91% of Americans believe dog parks provide benefits to their communities. The study revealed there were three top benefits to have a dog park in our community: (1) To give dogs a space to exercise and roam freely, (2) to allow dogs to socialize and (3) to allow owners to be more physically active. Another benefit to adding a dog park is to welcome travelers passing through our area to stop in our city to exercise their dogs, which could lead to supporting our current economic development goals.

Beeville, Texas residents have 283 acres of developed park land to enjoy. We are asking for about 1 acre of land to use for our dog park in an underutilized space at the Tyler Park area. The dog park location would be directly across from our Animal Shelter. The dog park can not only provide an additional resource for residents to enjoy with their fur babies, and we can also use this space to support our underfunded, understaffed and overcrowded animal shelter to help eliminate the overpopulation of stray cats and dog abandonment challenges we are currently facing in our community.  

We plan to apply for grants and fundraise to fund the entire project! Let's come together as a community to make this dog park come to fruition.
