The Issue

It's personal for us. As a lifelong Boisean and multi generational Idahoan, I love our city and the significant progress it has made over the years. I have watched my city grow up. It is a city that has grown and progressed in its values as I have grown and progressed in mine. It's why I never left, and it's why I never will. In 2025, Boise is a vibrant, loving, and inclusive community. We stand up for what's right and we protect our fellow Boiseans who face marginalization. Boise continues to be the gold standard everyone admires. And in our city, everyone is welcome to enjoy it.

In 2025, those are Boise's values. And I am honored to have a Mayor that stands with the same values that our city has grown into. During the past state legislative session, North Idaho representative Heather Scott sponsored HB 96, the flag bill we have all come to know. During the legislative process of HB 96, it was very clear the bill was intended to come after Boise. The only visual examples used during the legislation were Boise's pride flags. Objections from Boise's own state legislators were entirely ignored. And while the bill's intent was to maintain government neutrality, Heather Scott made it a point to go onto the Ranch Podcast and give her personal opinion that she does not believe in gay marriage.

Long story short, these are not Boise values, and unjust laws are meant to be broken. I am proud of our Mayor for defying an arguably unconstitutional law to protect our city's values. I am proud of our mayor for standing up for the autonomy of all local governments. In 2025, Boise is welcoming for all. In 2025, Boise is not Heather Scott's de facto government or a play toy for Raul Labrador's selective threats.

While all the above is great, there are an infinite number of reasons to continue standing with our Mayor, listed below. Sign and support, to let the Mayor know that while she has the city's back, the city has hers too:

*Boise has continued to buy land and open a record number of city parks, as part of the Mayor's goal to have every Boise resident within a 10 minute walk to a city park.
*The Mayor realizes the importance of saving our city from urban sprawl by building up and not out. In turn, small business in our city is thriving, as smart development and urban renewal leads to accessible consumers with more disposal income to spend. I have never seen a more vibrant downtown in Boise than during these past 5-6 years. Our city looks beautiful, and the Mayor has responded beautifully to the growth that city planning could have never forecasted.
*The Mayor realizes the need for affordable housing, requiring developers to create affordable housing units in many projects approved. This in term allows the city to provide affordable housing at no additional tax payer cost. In addition, the Mayor's strategy of receiving grants to provide and construct affordable housing in Boise is admirable.
*Under the Mayor's tenure, Boise continues to purchase acreage in the foothills to be under city ownership, to ensure outdoor accessibility and trails will stay with Boiseans for generations to come.
*Property crime rates have continued to decline under Mayor McLean's tenure, and are at record lows of about 12-13%.
*The Mayor is helping assist to lead efforts to expand Boise's tree canopy to 100,000 more trees in the next 10 years.

We could keep going and going, but I am proud of our Mayor. And proud of our city!
