I have a right to have both my parents in my life!
The Issue
Have you ever gone through parental alienation and had to resort to using the legal system to stop children being used as emotional weapons? If you have then please read!
I am a Dad! I love my children and have been an active part of my children's lives since they have been born. I have been prevented any access to my children.
It has now been months since I last saw/heard/cuddled/kissed or was allowed to be a father.
I have been fighting through the legal system where I have followed the processes set out by citizens advice and legal advisers of trying amicable communication, separation agreements, mediation and now courts and I have still so far not been allowed to be part of my children’s lives because my ex-partner refuses to be cooperative and the time scales the legal processes take.
The laws do not currently support equal parenting, they still to this day discriminate fathers and favor mothers. Despite the laws being there to protect those among us who cannot fight for themselves, it does not protect them and lets us all down!
A month without either parent for a child is harmful mentally & psychologically and if I ever get to have an active role as a father to my children again I will be forever trying to fix the trauma of a damaged bond which the law has helped create and not fix.
This petition is to change the laws not only to be equal for fathers but to put children and vulnerable people first!
I want parents to be able to have a meaningful relationship with their children which has a split of time spent equal to what it was before a separation unless there is actual proof of endangerment to a child’s welfare.
I want there to be a default of 50/50 shared custody at the start of any child matters with the main intention to resume the normal contact before a separation.
I want the residence of children put into the care of the primary parent before separation but on the basis that equal contact will remain until the child matters have been sorted.
I want parents who are recalcitrant to be punished for not acting in their children’s best interests.
I want family matters to be dealt with in a much more reasonable time constrained manner to lessen the impacts to the children.
I want government bodies to act much quicker from when they are involved to get a normal routine back to children’s lives and to lessen the detriment that comes from routine changes.
I want child supports/maintenance and other benefits that are child related to be split equally among parents so one parent cannot use the children as a cash cow and in turn for each parent to be responsible for equal costs of their children so if a father and mother have an equal split of time then neither should have to pay the other maintenance.
We live in the 21st century and equality should be normal but it is not, I see no reason why a parent should not support their children financially up to the ages of independence but I do not see why a separated parent should have to support the other separated parent financially which seems to be a common occurrence with child maintenance.
As a parent who is now feeling the sting of how unjust our laws are I cannot stand by knowing that my children may face the same inequality and discrimination.
Please sign my petition.
