Dear Supporters
Sarah and I are excited to let you know that on Friday, we met with Anthony Albanese’s Electorate Office Manager (the Prime Minister is Sarah’s local MP).
We delivered your 10,000+ signatures, comments and a letter outlining the issues, what we need and why it’s so important. Please continue to share this petition so that it gathers momentum.
The manager listened to us attentively, gave us all the time we needed and wanted our opinion on how the Prime Minister could help injured patients. We felt valued and heard.
We discussed the three main changes we are seeking:
1. Fairer legal frameworks for injured patients seeking compensation for physical and financial losses due to medical treatment
2. Restoration of public reporting of national data on healthcare compensation claims and their outcomes (the MINC collection; ceased 2015).
3. A national no-fault compensation scheme for healthcare-related injuries.
We also stressed the importance of understanding the lived experience of those suffering healthcare injuries and their families, including the stigma experienced by patients exercising their civil right to seek compensation and acknowledgement of their injury.
We eagerly await the Prime Minister’s response. What a great place to meet for the first time!
Thank you for your continued support!
Vickie and Sarah.
