HYUNDAI REINA RECALL

The Issue

The Hyundai Reina is relatively new as it just came out  in the Philippine market in 2019. Yet, there have been several underlying issues that have been brought to light by Reina owners such as the following:

  • Fuel Knock - when using the recommended fuel octane rating of 91, owners experience a knocking sound in their engine when accelerating. Service center staff advises to switch to fuel with a higher octane rating to eliminate the knocking. While this does temporarily work, some owners using the highest octane rated fuel available still deal with this issue.
  • AC Thermistor - this part has been reported to be the culprit when your AC suddenly doesn't cool your car cabin anymore. When you further inspect, you will find that your AC pipes are also freezing because of this defective part.
  • Broken Plastic Clutch Master Push Rod - manual transmission variant owners have reported to suddenly experience hard to press clutch pedal. Once this has been experienced, the inevitable broken plastic  push rod will surely happen. While it is covered under warranty, the replacement is of the same quality plastic and an owner even reported it also breaking within 6 months of getting replaced. Owners have resorted to having the said part fabricated from local machine shops at their own cost to mitigate the issue. This was also suggested and done by a Hyundai dealership  for one owner at the dealers cost.
  • Broken Crankshaft Pulley Bolt - this is the latest issue that has been reported by owners. While normally traversing the highway, owners would hear a noise and feel that they runover something. When they pull over to check they are surprised to eithet have lost the whole pulley along the highway or are unable to use their cars because the bolt holding the pulley is broken.

This petition aims for HARI to look at these issues more closely. If found to be significant, they should proactively recall and fix these issues at no cost to the owners.
