Support - No Namosi Dam

Support - No Namosi Dam
The Issue
Many of the remote villagers living in Namosi province, in Fiji’s inland misty mountains, don’t want the proposed hydro dam whose developers admit WILL threaten: the lives of children; the already threatened Fiji Tree Frog; a heritage burial site; fish that are an essential local food source; and other plant and animal life.
HELP GIVE THESE REMOTE VILLAGERS A VOICE, against the multi-million dollar Goliath developers!
Most concerning is the total lack of scientific or any evidence that it will not cause flooding to Navunikabi Village that’s perched on the edge of the wild Wainikoroiluva River (termed the Luva River). In the 700-plus page EIA document there is no estimates of changes to water level heights upstream as a result of the massive hydro dam, particularly in the highlands’ regular “big rain” events (not floods but the excessive rains that hit the highlands regularly for 2-3 days a time causing the river to rise between 50-80cm at any time).
At meetings the developers say “trust us” it won’t flood, but they refuse to document this claim. There is no documented evidence to support this verbal claim – no documentation means no transparency and no accountability. If the developers are so confident the riverside village won’t flood then why won’t they officially document this – then if it does flood they are accountable and need to act!
