Currently there is only 1 way to enter Wainuiomata from Lower Hutt. This one way is over Wainui Hill, a steep, exposed hill. The population of Wainuiomata is only going to grow as more people are looking for homes and several developments of new houses are built. Wainuiomata is a prime suburb of Lower Hutt that has lots to offer to our community. Businesses are starting to struggle, particularly because no one out side of Wainui goes to Wainuiomata. Part of the issue of declining businesses is due to there only being one way in and out, over the hill. I would like to propose that Hutt City Council starts looking at alternatives again for options to allow people to travel to Wainui. Many years ago, a tunnel was started, broke through to the Wainui side, however never fully finished. This was a wonderful idea and I'm sure cost was a factor to it not being finished. Hutt City Council could either pick up this project again, which I'm sure could be completed now due to advances in technology and architecture, or they could propose a new route, and start all over, possibly by entry around Naenae. There are many options available however nothing is going to be done unless we let the council know that we need this to happen!
